The design concept and planning work by Rudischer & Panzenböck Architektur GmbH, in collaboration with Polina-Hauck, has been impressively realized. The BAILU MUSIC SQUARE is a multifunctional park, leisure, and concert venue that went into operation at the end of last year and has already been visited on-site by architect Rudischer.
Styrian planning exports to China
We congratulate the Mayor of Mürzzuschlag and architect DI Karl Rudischer on his success in China!
Karl Rudischer has been a loyal ICS client since the very beginning – he uses the annual Styrian business trips for continuing education, broadening his horizons, and maintaining his network. He was already part of the trip to China in 2009 and joined us in 2010 for a visit to the World Expo in Shanghai. As Mayor of the city of Mürzzuschlag, he has also maintained contacts with China. Mürzzuschlag has had a friendship partnership with the Chinese city of Pengzhou since 2015, and this active city partnership has led to a lively exchange on a cultural level as well. In 2021, Mürzzuschlag sold 1,000 winter sports exhibits worth 300,000 EUR to China.
In an impressive symbiosis of architecture and nature, Rudischer & Panzenböck Architektur GmbH & Co KG created the Bailu Music Square. This modern open-air stage, located in the city of Bailu on the Jianjiang River in China, offers space for up to 1,000 visitors and serves as a contemporary tribute to the classical Greek amphitheater.
A Place for Cultural and Natural Experiences
The Bailu Music Square impresses with its unique location and design. The rows of seating, made from smooth concrete blocks, blend harmoniously into the wooded mountain landscape. From here, visitors enjoy not only a perfect view of the stage but also breathtaking views of the river valley and surrounding mountains. The structure of the stage and backstage areas, made up of triangles of various materials, reflects the local hilly landscape.
Flexibility & Innovation
One of the outstanding features of the Bailu Music Square is its flexible stage structure. The central stage, a steel construction with a finely woven metal mesh and acoustic reflectors, is able to transform. Three of the rear triangles open up to serve as the main entrance, creating a connection between nature and cultural experience. This innovative design allows the river to be seen from both the stage area and the seating rows.
Diverse Usage Options
The service areas are designed to be functional and versatile. They offer sanitary facilities, a café, a kiosk, artist dressing rooms, and technical installations. There is also a climbing area that uses the gentler slopes for playing, picnicking, and relaxing, and the steeper slopes for sport climbing and bouldering.
Year-Round Appeal
To make the Bailu Music Square usable as a recreational destination throughout the year, an indoor climbing and bouldering center has been integrated. This center extends the multifunctional use of the site and attracts additional visitors. The architects place great importance on a sustainable operating concept in order to strengthen Bailu’s tourism and recreational area and make optimal use of the region’s local culture and culinary potential.
Careful Planning & Implementation
In the first design phase, particular attention was paid to soil conditions, earthquake safety, and structural analysis. The next planning phase will include a detailed acoustic analysis to optimize the dimensions of the stage and reflectors, ensuring a unique sound experience.
Conclusion
The Bailu Music Square is an outstanding example of how innovative architecture and respect for the natural environment can merge. It offers unique cultural experiences while also contributing to the local community and environment.
