The Graz-based company develops, produces and sells three different types of special coatings, including ABIO, the first biological antifouling coating, which is the only one that complies with current EU regulations and is funded by Horizon 2020 as a project of the European Commission. To protect ships from sessile fouling, an underwater coating (antifouling) is regularly applied to ship hulls.
Acorros GmbH is the first and only company to meet the European Union’s requirement by bringing a non-toxic product to market. Their antifouling product “Abio” is purely biological and based on an entirely new principle. With around six million ships and 50 million liters of antifouling used per year, this product makes a significant contribution to environmental protection.
The company also developed a versatile corrosion protection solution for industry, specifically designed to withstand salt exposure and applied by dipping, spraying or brushing. Such exposure occurs both on roads and at sea, meaning the range of applications spans from the automotive and rail industries to the shipping industry.
As a third product, Acorros developed the LTi Seal – an extremely hard car paint coating that provides exceptional protection against stone chips and UV radiation, preserving the car’s surface condition for up to 10 years.
A successful new exporter
In 2018, Acorros‘ corrosion protection was successfully exported for the first time and is now supplied to renowned German automotive manufacturers. Although decision-making processes in the industry tend to take a long time, they are then planned sustainably, and the company is confident that it will be able to further expand its supply to the automotive industry in the future with the support of the ICS.
