At the beginning of December, we had the pleasure of welcoming H.E. Nina Vaskunlahti, Ambassador of the Republic of Finland to Austria to the Styrian Chamber of Commerce (WKO Steiermark).
Together with Executive Director Karl-Heinz Dernoscheg and the representatives of the Internationalisation Center Styria (ICS), Daniela Guss and Sandra Tanos, we took the opportunity for an engaging and insightful exchange with the Ambassador.
In addition to current political challenges, the meeting focused in particular on the close economic ties between Styria and Finland. Of course, we also took the opportunity to provide the Ambassador with insights into Styria’s foreign trade as well as the activities of WKO Steiermark and the ICS. The visit clearly demonstrated how diplomacy and business can jointly provide impetus and open up new perspectives.
With around 5.5 million inhabitants across an area almost as large as Germany, Finland is one of the most sparsely populated countries in Europe. The country’s most important exports include machinery and equipment, paper products, and iron and steel, with a large share going to Sweden, Germany, the USA, and the Netherlands.
More than 50 Austrian companies are represented in Finland, ranging from large industrial corporations to small sales offices, underscoring the strong economic interconnectedness.
