Concrete US Market Entry: Insights & B2B Discussions at USA Day 2026

Matchmaking, Insights & Concrete Next Steps for US Market Entry

How can one successfully enter the US market – especially in economically challenging times? Approximately 150 Styrian entrepreneurs took the opportunity at USA Day: Smart Investment Strategies to explore precisely this question. USA Day, organized by the ICS Internationalization Center Styria in cooperation with the U.S. Commercial Service of the U.S. Embassy in Vienna, offered concise guidance, top-tier expertise, and, above all, concrete implementation approaches for entering the United States. A particular highlight was the visit of U.S. Ambassador Arthur Fisher to the heart of Styria, at the invitation of the ICS, where he provided insights into current economic policy developments and the significance of transatlantic economic relations.

Strategic Classification and Political Impulses

The welcome addresses were delivered by ICS Managing Director Karl Hartleb and Chamber of Commerce President Josef Herk, followed by Jürgen Roth, Commercial Councilor, Head of the Professional Association. The thematic opening was then provided by H.E. U.S. Ambassador Arthur Fisher. In his keynote, he emphasized the close transatlantic economic relationship and the attractive conditions for Austrian companies in the USA. This perspective was complemented by an impulse from Provincial Councilor for Economic Affairs Willibald Ehrenhöfer, who underscored the importance of the USA as one of Styria’s most significant trading partners.

The subsequent panel discussion – featuring, among others, former ORF U.S. correspondent Hannelore Veit, Christian Grabner (Knapp AG) as a representative of a Styrian company, and Angela Smith, the representative of the U.S. state of Alabama – focused on geopolitical developments, location decisions, and real-world experiences from business practice.

USA Insights: Investment Knowledge First-Hand

A central element of USA Day was the pitch sessions by 15 U.S. states and five specialized service partners from the fields of law, human resources, construction, project development, and cost estimation. In concise formats, participants received a direct overview of location advantages, funding models, regulatory requirements, and typical pitfalls when entering the U.S. market.

In the afternoon, the focus shifted consistently to implementation. In bilateral 1:1 discussions, Styrian companies were able to delve deeper into their individual questions and explore concrete next steps for their U.S. ventures. The topics ranged from initial market soundings to specific investment and expansion projects, as well as legal, tax, and labor law aspects. The offering was complemented by a representative from the U.S. Visa Department, who answered questions about entry and work permits directly from first-hand experience.

Especially in a politically challenging and dynamic environment in the USA, the resilience and future-orientation of transatlantic economic relations were evident. Graz once again underscored its role as a reliable bridge between the Styrian economy and the United States: with stable export figures, the USA as Styria’s second most important trading partner, and a clear commitment to dialogue, trust, and common next steps.
