Styria Strengthens Presence in China

Opening Doors for Export and Growth

Where are the markets of tomorrow emerging? For many industries, the answer remains: China. This is precisely why a Styrian delegation with representatives from politics, business, and research is currently on-site to deepen contacts, explore opportunities, and strategically position Styrian companies.

Led by Governor Mario Kunasek and Deputy Governor Manuela Khom, the trip is accompanied by ICS Managing Director Karl Hartleb along with leading representatives of the business location—including Regional Councilor Willibald Ehrenhöfer, WKO Styria Vice President Herbert Ritter, Managing Director of the Federation of Austrian Industries Christoph Robinson , managing directors of Styrian companies, and commercial attachés from the Foreign Trade Centers. The ICS was responsible for the conception and coordination of the economic program, featuring visits to leading Chinese companies, networking appointments, and business-relevant exchange formats. The focus of the trip is on concrete opportunities for export, cooperation, and the targeted expansion of market potential.

Why China remains relevant

China is one of Styria’s most important trading partners. For many international companies, a local presence has long been a prerequisite for remaining globally competitive. The automotive sector is of particular relevance to Styria as a business location; it is well-represented on this delegation trip by Kurt Bachmaier of Magna Steyr Fahrzeugtechnik AG.

In addition to the field of mobility, the areas of automation, environmental technology, electronics, and the healthcare industry are of great importance.

Numerous examples demonstrate that Styrian companies are successfully competing here. Companies such as AT&S, AVL, ANDRITZ AG, Magna Steyr Fahrzeugtechnik AG, Anton Paar, and many other Styrian businesses have been operating successfully in China for years. Attractive opportunities for further growth exist particularly in the fields of automotive, green tech, electronics, industry, and medical technology.

China continues to offer enormous potential, especially for export-oriented companies: high demand, a strong willingness to invest, and an openness to technology.

In addition to site visits at the leading e-commerce platform “Meituan,” the AI and robotics company “AgiBot,” leading mobility companies (e.g., Xpeng, Comac, GAC Group, Magna Steyr Fahrzeugtechnik AG, …), and intensive exchanges with universities, high-level talks with regional decision-makers were also on the agenda. The trip will continue in the coming days with further appointments and company visits.
