Post-event Report: Argentine Timber Construction Delegation Visits Styria

Six Argentine companies traveled to Styria to gain valuable expertise for their timber construction projects in Buenos Aires!

It is not often that companies undertake such a long journey to Styria to acquire first-hand specialist knowledge.

The six participating companies from Argentina are involved in the first timber construction reference projects in South America, which are scheduled to be built in Buenos Aires next year. Plans for multi-story timber residential complexes are currently before the city government for approval.

Further follow-up projects, such as a school, are already in the planning stages, prompting the participating Argentine companies to embark on a fact-finding mission to Austria to obtain relevant implementation proposals and advice first-hand. The highlight is that these projects are to be realized entirely using Austrian technology, as Austrian products and innovations are definitely global leaders in the field of timber construction.

In the week prior to the Styrian visit, the travel group had already visited Vienna and Carinthia for the Klagenfurt Wood Fair. In Styria, they enjoyed a fantastic conclusion to their trip with company visits over two days (September 2 and 3, 2024) and an evening networking event with Styrian industry guests.

The focus of the trip was to find suppliers and partners in the field of training & certification, which is why the Styrian Wood Cluster, together with the Internationalization Center Styria and in cooperation with the Buenos Aires Foreign Trade Center of ADVANTAGE AUSTRIA, organized a comprehensive travel program.

The first day of the visit took the group to Upper Styria to visit the companies KLH, Mayr Melnhof Holz Leoben, and Kaufmann Bausysteme. All three companies stood out for their innovation, expertise, and international business experience.

On the second day, the group visited buildings and timber construction facilities in Graz, featuring an interesting series of lectures by the Styrian Wood Cluster in collaboration with two Graz-based architectural firms.
