Embassy Visit Ghana

The visit by HE Philbert Johnson, Ambassador of the Republic of Ghana to Austria, highlighted the continued importance of the West African nation’s role despite current funding challenges. The country aims to deepen cooperation with Austria, and particularly with the Styrian economy, to increase local value creation and better address infrastructural challenges. Especially in the waste management sector, successful collaborations with Styrian companies are already underway. Without further strengthening cooperation on an equal footing between Africa and Europe, there is a risk that the situation on the demographically rapidly growing continent will further deteriorate, which could again increase migration pressure northwards. Therefore, financing that has currently stalled and aid from the European community of states would not only bring good business opportunities but also represent a sound investment in the future.

Ghana, as one of the world’s leading exporters of gold, cocoa, and crude oil, has demonstrated impressive average annual growth of 5.9% over the past two decades. Gold, in particular, which accounts for two-thirds of total export volume and one-sixth of tax revenues, is central to the country’s economic strength. The enormous price fluctuations in raw materials and minerals make a consistent economic policy difficult and necessitate strengthening local production.
