At the end of October, we had the pleasure of warmly welcoming H.E. Victoria Rosa, Ambassador of the Republic of Moldova to Austria, in Graz.
Together with Director Karl-Heinz Dernoscheg and representatives of the Internationalisation Center Styria (ICS), Daniela Guss and Sandra Tanos, we held a highly stimulating and informative exchange. The focus was on insights into Styria’s foreign trade, the activities of the Styrian Chamber of Commerce (WKO Steiermark) and the ICS, as well as discussions on economic developments, opportunities for cooperation, and perspectives for further deepening bilateral relations between Styria and the Republic of Moldova.
Of particular interest was the Ambassador’s information about an ADA-funded project for training skilled workers in the fields of IT and electronics. This is an Austrian (private) school in Moldova, specifically in Chişinău, which offers practice-oriented training taught in German, with additional instruction in Romanian and English, and enables students to obtain the Austrian school-leaving and diploma qualification.
The visit was characterised by an inspiring dialogue that impressively demonstrated how diplomacy and business can build bridges together and open up new perspectives.
With around 2.4 million inhabitants, the Republic of Moldova is one of the smaller and economically less developed European countries. Its foreign trade is characterised by a high import surplus: in recent years, imports have averaged about twice as high as exports. Moldova mainly imports fuels, machinery, production inputs, technical equipment and higher-value consumer goods. Exports consist predominantly of agricultural products (such as grain, fruit, nuts, wine) and foodstuffs, as well as goods with a low level of processing, such as textiles or shoes.
