At the end of March, we had the pleasure of welcoming the ambassadors of Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, and Kazakhstan in Austria to the ICS.
Together with ICS Managing Director Karl Hartleb, Honorary Consul Günter Nebel as well as Wolfgang Schaffer and Michelle Fröhwein from eee group GmbH and Sandra Tanos, an engaging and intensive exchange took place with the diplomatic missions from Central Asia.
In addition to a brief presentation of the ICS Internationalization Center Styria and our diverse activities, the meeting focused on deepening economic relations between Styria and Central Asia, as well as potential future cooperation in the fields of infrastructure, research, education, and sustainable development.
The personal dialogue was extremely valuable: it provided deep insights, strengthened the mutual understanding of economic developments, and opened up new perspectives for shared opportunities.
Central Asia: This region in the heart of the Eurasian continent comprises five former Soviet republics. Over 80 million people live in an area of around 3.8 million square kilometers (as of 2024). The region is strategically located between major economic powers: bordering Afghanistan and Iran to the south, China to the east, and Russia to the west and north. Furthermore, it is characterized by a turbulent history, a strategic location, and vast raw material deposits.
