High-Tech Meets Growth Market: Successful Expansion to India

Supported by the ICS and networked up to the ministerial level – from the initial market exploration to the successful company foundation in Chennai. This is how the successful expansion into India of a Styrian measurement system specialist succeeds.

The Graz-based company DEWETRON, specializing in modular measurement systems for complex testing tasks, is one of the world’s technological pioneers in the field of data acquisition and analysis. The high-precision systems are developed and manufactured in Styria and distributed via an international network – and since 2024, now also through its own subsidiary in Chennai, South India.

The path there was strategically planned and characterized by intensive preparation: since the start of the ICS India focus program in 2023, the company has utilized the comprehensive support services – from intercultural training and market entry workshops to targeted networking events and participation in a trade mission to India. This mission in particular proved to be especially valuable: DEWETRON was not only able to meet potential partners on-site but also establish high-level contacts.

“The new subsidiary in Chennai forms the foundation for the further expansion of DEWETRON’s offerings in India, such as local expert support or calibration services, as well as a platform to bring Austrian measurement technology into the renewable energy sector.”

Raimund Trummer, Director of DEWETRON India

During a visit by the IT Minister from Chennai to Styria organized by the ICS, a decisive door-opener emerged: the DEWETRON team had the opportunity to personally present the company and its technology to the Minister – a conversation that ultimately contributed significantly to the successful founding of the local subsidiary. “In a market like India in particular, it is crucial to build stable networks early on. Our goal is not only to inform Styrian companies but to actively network them with local decision-makers,” emphasizes Christina Ulrich, Project Manager for India at the ICS.

Together with DEWETRON’s sales, marketing, and management, the market entry was meticulously prepared – with a clear goal in mind: establishing a long-term presence in one of the fastest-growing markets in the world.

In the fall of 2024, the time had finally come: the new subsidiary in Chennai was founded – a further step in the company’s internationalization. It is no wonder, then, that DEWETRON was also honored as the Styrian Export Prize winner in the same year. Christina Ulrich and ICS Managing Director Karl Hartleb personally saw the potential and vision of the team during a visit to the company headquarters in Grambach.

With its market entry in India, DEWETRON has not only opened up a new market – the company also demonstrates how effective the targeted development of expertise, networks, and regional understanding can be in international expansion.
