Anyone who knows exactly what clinoptilolite is would likely have a good chance of winning big on a quiz show. For the Upper Styrian company IPUS Mineral- und Umwelttechnologie, however, this very mineral of volcanic origin forms the basis for manufacturing a wide range of products. Founded in 1990, the family business initially focused primarily on wastewater treatment before gradually entering the biogas and agricultural sectors. “We have been developing mineral bioregulators, also known as migulators, for over ten years,” explains Managing Director Dina Lesjak.

Research as a valuable asset

These migulators are used in agriculture across the entire circular economy at many farms. “This includes feed additives, products for stable hygiene, soil improvement, or mineral foliar fertilizers,” says Lesjak. A positive side effect is the reduction of emissions. “We also conduct extensive research on microbiology in collaboration with BOKU or TU Graz.”

Cooperation with ICS

In the meantime, IPUS products have also attracted interest in other countries: the Rottenmann-based company now supplies countries in South America, South Africa, and throughout Europe. “We work very closely with the Internationalization Center Styria in this regard,” Lesjak confirms. Currently, for example, within the framework of the ‘ExportKnowHow’ project. “Specifically, this involves market development and better market penetration in Europe. We applied via the website www.ExportKnowHow.at and then completed an Export Fit Check offered by the ICS. The goal is and remains to build up sales partners and new dealer networks.”
