Founded in Graz in 2019, Baron Filou stands for sustainable street couture with a youthful design. The company places great importance on fair and eco-friendly production, with collections manufactured under fair working conditions in Portugal. With a creative team of ten employees, Baron Filou now sells its clothing in over 40 countries and is represented in more than 400 retail stores.

A significant milestone: In April 2025, Baron Filou opened its first brick-and-mortar store worldwide in Riyadh – also setting culinary accents with an integrated café. In the Saudi Arabian capital, there is a rapidly growing interest in sustainable fashion and Western streetwear – ideal conditions for realizing Baron Filou’s vision in the Middle East as well.

The successful market entry in Saudi Arabia marks another milestone in Baron Filou’s international expansion. This success was made possible through strategic planning, close cooperation with local partners, and support from the ICS.

A central step was the creation and signing of the franchise agreement, which fully takes into account the legal requirements of the Saudi Arabian market. In parallel, a website tailored to the market (www.baronfilou.sa) was set up to optimally position the brand in the new market.

A decisive success factor was the financial support provided by the Internationalization Check from go-international. ICS funding consultant Marion Kikinger supported the company with her expertise, helping to successfully apply for the funding and utilize the resources specifically for the market entry in Saudi Arabia.

“It is a special moment when an idea becomes reality – and with the support of this funding, we were able to do exactly that: open our first store in Saudi Arabia. This expansion shows what is possible when you believe in your brand – and have the right partners by your side.”

Product development and project organization also ran smoothly thanks to regular jour fixes and a clear structure. The successful trademark registration and compliance with ‘Country of Origin’ requirements through targeted certificate procurement underscore the professional preparation.

Particularly clever: The technical setup of geo-redirects and SEO optimizations ensures that customers from Saudi Arabia are directed straight to the local website. A pop-up window further improves the brand’s digital visibility. A dedicated local social media presence was established to respect cultural nuances and specifically address the community.

The success speaks for itself: Baron Filou has not only mastered the cultural and legal hurdles of the market but has also laid a strong foundation for sustainable growth.

We look forward to seeing what new chapters the Baron Filou success story will write in Saudi Arabia – and we are pleased to continue accompanying the company on this journey.
